Child Car Seat
Nationally, only 1 out of 10 Child Safety Seats, inspected by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, is installed and/or used correctly. In 2008 our Technicians inspected 329 seats, but found 18 (only 5%) had no errors on arrival. Although many mistakes may not appear harmful, some could lead to serious outcomes. Our mission is to educate parents and guardians in the proper use and installation of Child Safety Seats, so their children leave our fitting station safer than when they arrived.
The Arlington Professional Firefighters currently has 8, Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. We have all had at least 32 hours of classroom instruction and have passed a written/practical certification exam. We are also required to recertify every two years. Although our members do provide this service while on duty with the full support and cooperation of the Arlington Fire District, we receive no additional pay or benefits and all training is completed on our own time.
We are available by appointment for day and evening Child Safety Seat Inspections. The Fire District also hosts Child Safety Seat Check Events several times per year and we participate in Check Events hosted by neighboring agencies.
We are not a "Car Seat Installation Service". Our goal is to teach parents and caregivers in the proper installation methods and correct use of their Child Restraint with their vehicle. Please contact us to schedule your child's car seat fitting today!
