Mutual Aid to City of Poughkeepsie 10-76 Fire in a High Rise, 42 Cannon Street - Group 1

On 8/12/2011 32-11 and 32-45 staffed with members of APFF Group 1 were dispatched to a (highrise) mutual aid fire in the City of Poughkeepsie with heavy fire on the 4th floor. Upon arrival and receiving orders from CPFD command to affect a rescue, the truck set up off the A/B corner and laddered the number 4 floor. As they climbed toward the victim, she disappeared from the window. Without the protection of a handline, the crew (Lt. J. Karn, FF J. Minunni and FF G. Cerniglia) entered the window, located the victim and brought her to safety down the aerial. They reentered the 4th floor where they located another victim confined to a wheel chair. Arlington and City of Poughkeepsie Firefighters with minimal visibility and increasing heat, manged to carry the victim down the interior stairs just before the 5th floor lit up.

While the rescues were taking place, crews from the City of Poughkeepsie and Fairview FD's were battling a ferocious, fast moving fire, that quickly moved to the cockloft. 1 civilian and 2 firemen went to the hospital for injuries sustained and numerous others were treated at the scene. With minimal manpower, a tremendous amount of work was done simultaneously and a great effort was given by all departments.
